Our Story

SOLEI was founded by Sofia Lopez-Llerena, who was born in Peru with a Polish background. After living in Peru until the age of seven and then moving to the United States, Sofia longed to reconnect with her roots. She was deeply moved by the lack of awareness many had about the struggles faced in Peru.

With an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for service, Sofia created SOLEI not as a traditional non-profit limited to one cause, but as a movement that embraces many. From environmental projects to supporting women, children, and vulnerable communities, SOLEI thrives on collaboration, initiative, and networking. The name SOLEI – Love Across Borders reflects this vision: to keep people connected, regardless of distance or background. Starting in Miami and Peru, SOLEI aims to expand across the U.S. and internationally, fostering a worldwide culture of unity and compassion.
